Landon Donovan Selected By USMNT In Farewell Game

United States Men’s National Team Head Coach, Jurgen Klinsmann, has selected Los Angeles Galaxy star and USMNT’s all-time leading goalscorer, Landon Donovan, 32, for an exhibition showdown against Ecuador on October 10 in Hartford, CT; the California native was infamously omitted from Klinsmann’s FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 roster.

Donovan, who will be officially retiring from professional soccer at the end of the MLS 2014 season, will witness a fairy tale swan song before capping off an illustrious 15-year career. Arguably the greatest United States soccer player in history, Donovan has forged an indelible legacy with 57 goals and 58 assists in 156 appearances for the United States.

The selection by Klinsmann is not a sentimental one, given Donovan’s recent form since May 2014, tallying six goals and six assists in his last 14 MLS games for Los Angeles Galaxy; Los Angeles Galaxy presently remain in second place in the MLS Western Conference behind Seattle Sounders.
